OVERVIEW: Satellite-based SIGINT systems with a 3,000 km coverage radius are used for intercepting and analyzing radio frequency (RF) emissions over vast areas. These platforms are key to global surveillance, communications intelligence (COMINT), and electronic intelligence (ELINT) collection.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: In service since the 1980s, space-based SIGINT platforms are equipped with wideband antennas and advanced signal processing suites to detect, geolocate, and classify electromagnetic emissions. Orbiting in geosynchronous or highly elliptical trajectories, they cover entire continents or oceanic regions, gathering data on military communications, radar systems, and electronic signatures for strategic situational awareness and targeting support.

ROLE SUMMARY:
Category: Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) / Spaceborne ISR
Primary Use: Long-range RF interception and emitter geolocation
Function: Passive interception and analysis
Platform: Geostationary and highly elliptical orbit satellites
